NASM Personal Training Certification
Inarguably one of the most popular personal training certifying agencies, the National Academy of Sports Medicine has certified a large number of fitness instructors. NASM is an accredited program through the NCCA (National Commission for Certifying Agencies), and is widely recognized throughout the fitness industry. What this means for you is that if you choose to become certified through NASM, you significantly increase your chances of finding a job at a health club or gym. As good as this sounds, the certification exam itself is challenging, and has a 64% pass rate. Exam preparation is critical, as retaking the exam can be both demoralizing and costly. Personal trainer exam programs with an online course exist, and for someone who is fine with moving at their own pace, or already holds a bachelor’s degree in physical fitness or a related field, may be a great option. But for those who want to change careers fast and are relatively new to fitness as a career, in-person training could be the safest, most effective option.
The accelerated NASM-CPT course (National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer) is a 5-week long, hands-on training course is designed to get you from drawing a blank to having an expert rating in an exciting career in as little time as possible.

Our personal trainer school is here to support you
Aside from a great training program for prospective PT’s, Strength Academy also provides three great services: The Athletic Club, The Trainer’s Club and the Recovery Club. The Athletic Club is a gym for paying members. The Trainer’s Club is a space for Personal Trainers to meet with their clients and take them through their exercise program. The Recovery Club allows members to take part in advanced recovery using NormaTec recovery tools.
The Athletic Club has everything you could want for your workout or your client’s, including barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, bumper plates, tires for flipping and beating, boxing equipment and tons of open space. Just like NASM is big on corrective exercises, Strength Academy’s Athletic Club takes this philosophy to heart with an emphasis on calisthenics first, and getting strong with weights when the base is established. Naturally the Athletic Club has everything needed for this process.
Strength Academy’s Trainer’s Club provides Personal Trainers with the space, equipment and privacy to provide their clients great workouts and a positive experience. Equipment for bodyweight, strength and conditioning housed in 2,000 square feet will guarantee your client gets exactly what they need to progress. Add the ability to make the session private and you can assure that your clients will keep coming back.
The Recovery Club features advanced tools designed to help you and your client get ready for the next workout. NormaTec Dynamic Air Compression sleeves for the legs, thighs and arms are the staple equipment for the Recovery Club. They massage the user’s extremities with a patented technology, improving blood flow to the area. This improves healing time from muscle soreness, a major deterrant for new fitness clients and all athletes.
In each Club, trainer and client alike can take comfort in the fact that strict cleaning and sanitization is taken by the staff.
Inspire people to change their lives and motivate them to achieve their health goals. Start changing lives and your own.
No one really cares about how much you know until they know how much you care.– NASM Master Instructor Brian Nguyen
If you’ve ever felt like you needed a Personal Trainer course, this is for you
The fitness industry is huge, with personal training taking roughly $10.4 billion in 2020. Personal trainers in the US make on average $69,901 per year, and the industry is expected to keep growing. If fitness is truly your passion, and improving the overall health of others is something you think you would excel at, there is no better time to join this industry! Taking on this challenging course using other study programs is difficult without a life time of practical experience… interested students should strongly consider the Strength Academy’s 5-week training program to start their career move.
Fitness professionals are needed now more than ever, and have the opportunity, after establishing a base with their own personal knowledge and gaining several hours of hands-on practical experience, to experience the freedom of training clients online, since much of the people looking for personal trainers are looking for remote instruction due to the pandemic’s effect on gyms.
Benefits of our CPT Certification
So why Strength Academy? Why NASM? There are lots of other certifying agencies and personal training certification programs in the United States, and while a true comparison article is in the works from the Strength Academy, some of the core strengths of the program are highlighted below.
The benefits of doing the 5-week NASM CPT program at the Strength Academy are that you will learn to design programs featuring NASM’s wide array of corrective exercises and Optimum Performance Training Model, you will have the opportunity to learn things hands-on that you wouldn’t be able to do with self-study programs, and you will be certified with one of the most recognizable personal training certifications in the United States, giving you a life time of opportunity in a fun profession. Interested students, read on.
NASM’s OPT Model and Corrective Exercises
The OPT Model is at the backbone of the NASM CPT certification and guides the basic action to be taken by trainer and client. It appropriately starts at the client’s core and moves toward athletic performance as a final goal. The model is as follows:
- Phase 1: Stabilization Endurance
- Phase 2: Strength Endurance
- Phase 3: Muscular Development/Hypertrophy
- Phase 4: Maximal Strength
- Phase 5: Power
Phase 1 is the start of the trainee’s journey, and uses corrective exercises to establish basic strength and endurance gains, specifically with functional movements. Light weight and repetition schemes of 12-20 reps characterize this phase.
In phase 2, Strength Endurance, the client will begin to superset traditional exercises with stabilization exercises. Rep ranges remain high, sets increase and time between sets decreases, introducing a high calorie-burning component.
Phase 3 starts the major increases in strength, using moderate reps of 6-12 for 3-6 sets with minimal rest periods, designed to exploit the body’s hypertrophic response. This is the phase where the most dramatic changes in boy composition happen.
The Maximal Strength Phase, Phase 4, aims to accomplish for the trainee exactly what the title implies. Reps are between 1-5, loads, sets and rest time increase.
The Power phase is next and the final stage for the training client. Supersets are again employed, this time alternating traditional movements with similiar “power” movements… that is, relatively low-load, explosive movements. This phase is not only for athletes, as certain non-athletic clients can also benefit from power training.
Completing a Personal Trainer Certification Program at the Strength Academy allows new trainers the unique experience of completing the program and networking with potential future business partners, getting hands-on practical experience from knowledgeable CPT’s and familiarization with Strength Academy’s facilities and staff.
There were roughly 373,000 personal trainers in the United States in 2019, and that number continues to grow. Getting a head start with networking with this growing group can help to ensure future career opportunities for new trainers. Luckily, with Strength Academy’s CPT program, students will be learning materials and getting practical experience alongside their future professional peers.
In addition to networking, student of Strength Academy will get hands-on, practical experience and live instruction from knowledgeable CPT’s who have been in the fitness industry for over a decade. This alone can be worth the cost of the program, as students will be able to focus on the material that matters the most, ensuring that their chance of passing the NASM test the first time increases significantly. This is important, as the final exam for NASM is not open book like other certifying agencies.
An added perk, aside from the educational experience, for trainers looking to utilize Strength Academy’s Trainer’s Club in the future is the ability to get familiar with the facility and it’s equipment. What better way to start your personal trainer career than by training your first clients in the same place that you learned?
The Recognizable, Gold Standard of Fitness Certifications
Why is the NASM CPT certification the best? Because it is super recognizable throughout the fitness industry, it gives it’s students the best chance of succeeding by providing them with the most study materials than any other certification body, and they do more than just teach their students fact and figures, they actually get people ready to run their own business.
The entire fitness industry in the United States recognizes and respects NASM’s Certified Personal Trainer Certification. Many call it the gold standard of personal trainer certifications, or even go as far as to call it the best personal training certification. That’s because everything that NASM teaches is rooted in science. Since 1987, the National Academy of Sports Medicine has worked hard to develop a comprehensive system of educational courses designed to help passionate people make a behavior change in clients with effective exercise programs.
NASM accomplishes this by providing their student with the most study materials of any other certifying organization, including ISSA (International Sports Sciences Association), ACE (American Council on Exercise) or ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine).
In addition to both hard copy and digital copies of the text book, new trainers receive access to lecture videos, an exercise library, a cueing library, a study guide an several other memorization tools to help students learn anatomy, exercise science and exercise physiology. Students at the Strength Academy’s fitness center of course have access to practice exams, set up with limited time for completion, much like in Pearson VUE Testing Centers.
So what’s next? If you are ready to commit to this challenging course and make a bold career move, we’d love to talk with you and guide you through the first steps in your journey. A great place to start is with the FAQ’s portion below, to ensure you’ve met all the requirements before starting the course.
