Certified NASM Personal Trainers Earn 25% More

Inarguably one of the most popular personal training certifying agencies, the National Academy of Sports Medicine has certified a large number of fitness instructors. NASM is an accredited program through the NCCA (National Commission for Certifying Agencies), and is widely recognized throughout the fitness industry. What this means for you is that if you choose to become certified through NASM, you significantly increase your chances of finding a job at a health club or gym. As good as this sounds, the certification exam itself is challenging, and has a 64% pass rate. Exam preparation is critical, as retaking the exam can be both demoralizing and costly. Personal trainer exam programs with an online course exist, and for someone who is fine with moving at their own pace, or already holds a bachelor’s degree in physical fitness or a related field, may be a great option. But for those who want to change careers fast and are relatively new to fitness as a career, in-person training could be the safest, most effective option.

The accelerated NEWLY UPDATED NASM-CPT course (National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer) is a one-day Live Crash Course, designed to get you from drawing a blank to having an expert rating in an exciting career in as little time as possible. We also offer our online interactive Study Guide to help you pass at your pace. Our Live Instructor is also available for 30 days after the course to help you and guide you until you pass the exam.

NASM’s OPT Model and Corrective Exercises

The OPT Model is at the backbone of the NASM CPT certification and guides the basic action to be taken by trainer and client. It appropriately starts at the client’s core and moves toward athletic performance as a final goal. The model is as follows:

  • Phase 1: Stabilization Endurance
  • Phase 2: Strength Endurance
  • Phase 3: Muscular Development/Hypertrophy
  • Phase 4: Maximal Strength
  • Phase 5: Power

Phase 1 is the start of the trainee’s journey, and uses corrective exercises to establish basic strength and endurance gains, specifically with functional movements. Light weight and repetition schemes of 12-20 reps characterize this phase.

In phase 2, Strength Endurance, the client will begin to superset traditional exercises with stabilization exercises. Rep ranges remain high, sets increase and time between sets decreases, introducing a high calorie-burning component.

Phase 3 starts the major increases in strength, using moderate reps of 6-12 for 3-6 sets with minimal rest periods, designed to exploit the body’s hypertrophic response. This is the phase where the most dramatic changes in boy composition happen.

The Maximal Strength Phase, Phase 4, aims to accomplish for the trainee exactly what the title implies. Reps are between 1-5, loads, sets and rest time increase.

The Power phase is next and the final stage for the training client. Supersets are again employed, this time alternating traditional movements with similar “power” movements… that is, relatively low-load, explosive movements. This phase is not only for athletes, as certain non-athletic clients can also benefit from power training.

Hands-On Learning

Completing a Personal Trainer Certification Course at the Strength Academy allows new trainers the unique experience of completing the program and networking with potential future business partners, getting hands-on practical experience and live instruction from knowledgeable CPT’s who have been in the business for over a decade and familiar with Strength Academy’s facilities and staff.

There were roughly 373,000 personal trainers in the United States in 2019, and that number continues to grow. Getting a head start with networking with this growing group can help to ensure future career opportunities for new trainers. Luckily, with Strength Academy’s CPT program, students will be learning materials and getting practical experience alongside their future professional peers.

The Recognizable, Gold Standard of Fitness Certifications

Why is the NASM CPT certification the best? Because it is super recognizable throughout the fitness industry, it gives it’s students the best chance of succeeding by providing them with the most study materials than any other certification body, and they do more than just teach their students fact and figures, they actually get people ready to run their own business.

The entire fitness industry in the United States recognizes and respects NASM’s Certified Personal Trainer Certification. Many call it the gold standard of personal trainer certifications, or even go as far as to call it the best personal training certification. That’s because everything that NASM teaches is rooted in science. Since 1987, the National Academy of Sports Medicine has worked hard to develop a comprehensive system of educational courses designed to help passionate people make a behavior change in clients with effective exercise programs.

NASM accomplishes this by providing their student  with the most study materials of any other certifying organization, including ISSA (International Sports Sciences Association), ACE (American Council on Exercise) or ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine).

Students at the Strength Academy’s School of course have access to practice exams set up with limited time for completion, much like in Pearson VUE Testing Centers, study guide and cheat sheets to help you pass with confidence!
